Video: Millenial Generation

It was amazing to see students speak out about technology. It really inspired me to use it in my classroom. If students want technology then we really need to work hard to implement it into our classroom. They are a technology generation and if we don't do anything about it now then we will be behind as teachers. Having professors that were so into technology was so awesome to have. I want to be that teacher for my high school students. It honestly gives a teacher more credibility if I them using technolgy so much. I am so glad these students talked about it because education needs to have a lot of technology in it to be most affective.

Reflection: Last Week!

What?

I have learned so much from taking this class. I will definitely use the following in my classroom: google classroom site, digital story, knowledge of UEN,vidcasts, podcasts and webquests.

So What?

I am going to be so up to date with technology in my classroom. A lot of teachers that I observed were not up to date at all. Alot of them had never even heard of the technology which is just crazy to me. This class is going to make me such a better teacher because I will have a variety of things that I will be able to use to benefit the different learners in my classroom. I am just so excited to show the many things I can do to my sudents.

I know that i wll be showing a lot of teachers how to do these things in their classroom as well. My sister who is a teacher right now is helping all the older teachers with the technology to help them get up to date. This also makes me more eligible as a teacher to principals. Having someone who can help add technology to their school is going to be a very beneficial. I can't wait to be that teacher where everyone is wondering where I learned all of this, and I will say "DOC WATERS AT UVU!"

Now What?

My students are going to be able to relate a lot better with this material because they are all about technology. They have cell phones, ipods, and many more things every second of their day. Why not use technolgy to interest them (since they use it all the time)? They will be able to relate better to me if I am up to date. This will definitely help me in my life right now because during the summer I can make more webquests,vidcasts, podcasts, and digital stories. This will be great for my studentm teaching.

I will also be able to use this in my personal life. How awesome would it be to make a digital story of my grandmas life and give it to her for her birthday. She would love that! I know how to make vidcasts now, which would be so fun to teach my students how to do it and make a video themselves on a certain topic. That literally would be awesome to do! I can't wait to use all that I learned in my future classroom and life. It has been one of my favorite classes because I know that I will truly use it all the time!

VIdeo: Did You Know 3.0

That video was a true eye opener to me. What really stuck out to me was the way that technology has changed so much! From rado to facebook, it is just amazing to me. Technology has made connection all over the world now. Connection with everyone over the world is amazing. Facebook has really made a difference with our society. It really made me think that as a teacher I have to stay up with technology because it is very important to not fall behind from where my students will be. This video truly inspired me to get to know technology even better then I do now!

Digital Stories 2

What?

We learned how to put our digital story together on the computer. We learned using Photostory, but we are going to use IMovie since the fidelity is better.

So what?

I am so excited about our digital story. I know that I will definitely be using this digital story while I am teaching. The great thing about it too is that there is a lot of other people that are in my content that have made their digital stories and now we can all switch with each other. I already know four of my colleagues that all want to trade each others digital stories so its going to be fantastic. I honestly can't believe how eye opening and touching these digital stories can be. I have always wanted to be able to make one, but I never thought I would be able to until I took this class. Its going to be so beneficial!

Learning how to put it together was so great too, because I actually know how to do it. As a future teacher I need to be able to know how to do all of these things by myself. Some group projects I come out not knowing anything about how to do it on my own after I'm done. However, not with this project since Doc Waters taught us as a group. I honestly am so excited! As a future teacher I am going to be busy making these digital stories all the time. What a great way to start off a unit.

Now what?

This will benefit my students so much. When watching videos, or listening to music, there is a feeling that you can't get if someone is just telling you something. Hearing and viewing is the key. My students will be able to be truly touched with some of my digital stories and that is my ultimate goal. When it comes to touching topics in health, I need to have a visual for my students. I can't explain in words how serious suicide is, but I can explain it through a digital story.

I honestly am so excited to use this in my classroom. Using this technology is very beneficial because watching movies, televison, is what this generation does. They are all about technology, so the more technology the better. I want so badly, to bring technolgoy completely into my classroom everyday. It not only will be the best way to get my students attention, but I will be able to teach others how to use it too. I hope someday that I can teach my students how to do a digital story. It would be the best thing, however I don't know if there is enough time, but maybe if I just taught them a simpler version. I honestly can't wait for our digital story to be finished. Its going to be awesome!

NASA Digital Story

I was very impressed with this digital story. I am very unfamiliar with NASA and the space program and the many individuals who have died from missions. I gained so much knowledge from those four minutes then I every have when learning about space history. I honestly was an incredible digital story. It gave information and showed the sacrifice of many individuals who have died for the space program. My respect for NASA has grown so much now. I can't believe that a digital story can do that. I can't wait for me to finish my digital stories, because they are very affective. Nothing is better then gaining knowledge in three minutes or less. I can't wait to have many digital stories.

Digital Stories

What?

In class,we learned how to do digital stories. My group is now working on a digital story on domestic violence. Its going to be awesome!

So what?

I am so excited to be able to use this in my classroom. This is going to mean so much to my future students. Starting out my lessons using digital stories is a great way to introduce topics in my class. Having this extra part of my lesson plans will be so fun and entertaining. I know that we are learning this to reach out more to our students. Most of my health digital stories will be more intense and they will really touch students. Videos and music can be very touching and bring an intense feeling.

I also can use this in my everyday life as well. Knowing how to do this is going to be great. I can use it for birthday presents, anniversary presents, and christmas presents. So not only will I use it in my classroom, but in other areas of my life. This technology means so much and I am so excited to use it. I know that I will be making more of these during the summer before I do my student teaching. I honestly can't wait to make more of these.

Now what?

As a teacher this is going to benefit my classroom so much. Having these will make me such a better teacher. I already know that I want to make one for my suicide, peer pressure,communicable diseases, and for my abstinence lessons. I think all of them can be beneficial. I know that I will be able to share with my other colleagues my digital stories I make. I know they will return the favor and eventually have many different digital stories for my units. I can't wait for the many stories I will receive.

I know that I will be using so many digital stoies in my classroom. I have been a little unsure about everyting that I will use outside of class, but this technology I know I will. Digital stories are going to change the way that students feel about topics. Especially the ones like, suicide, abuse, and abstinence. Those lessons can start out with a very touching story exactly how I want it. I am so grateful to know this technology because I am going to use it in a lot of areas of my life. This is probably my favorite thing that I have learned in my class. I am so excited that I will get to end with it.

Video: How not to use PowerPoint

I love how this comedian mocked bad PowerPoint presentations because that is my biggest PET PEEVE. I actually had to teach another teachers lesson using his PowerPoint and it was dreadful! Each slide was covered in a million words. It was so hard to for the students to read first of all, and second it was so hard to present with because there were no key points. It was all just a bunch of sentences of paragraphs. I couldn't stand it at all. There is nothing more worse then looking at a crowded PowerPoint. Fortunatley, I already know this information about them and it has made me successful when I give presenations. I know that I am going to run into teachers that have their PowerPoints like this and I will definitely have them watch this or just tell them because they need to know. For some reason the older generation teachers that I have observed do not know how to use it effectively. However, all my college professors know how, its just the middle school and high school teachers.

What?

This week we worked on PowerPoint activities. This is an activity that we will use for our students to help them to be better at PowerPoint. I am so glad I will be doing this because I learned how to do powerpoint in college.

So what?

We learned how to copy and paste objects from powerpoint so my students will be able to visually see instructions instead of justreading them. Reading instructions is definitely more difficult. Especially for visual learner, so I know that this is going to help me be such a better instructor by giving so much help. I am so excited that I will be able to help my students even more. I know this will help me personally too to learn some more things about PowerPoint. I know I will be doing a lot of PowerPoint discussions and I need to know it backwards and forwards.

This technology means so much to me! Teaching my students how to use PowerPoint is going to be very useful for them. My students will be able to know PowerPoint before they even enter college. How awesome will that be that be to know how to use PowerPoint prior to their education? That truly would be awesome for them. Know how to teach this technology is going to be so benefiical in my classroom.

Now What?

Having this knowledge is going to make me such a better teacher. I will not only be teaching my students Health, but technology as well. Having knowledge in technology can expand a persons education to great knowledge. It is true that you need to know technology for this generation. Sooner then we know it everything will be technology and if we don't teach our students how to use it they are going to be very far behind. I will be able to use this in helping teach other technologies as well.

PowerPoint is a great source as a teacher, student, and colleague. Students have to give many presentations in college and being able to use it their Freshman year is awesome. I want to help my students prepare for college and teaching them about technology will be a great thing they take with them. I want to be successful as a teacher and I know I can be if I am teaching my students to latest technology. I have to stay updated and keep teaching them because I only learned this in my last two years of college and it was definitely a lot more difficult.

Why let our students Blog? Video

I really was interested watching this video because now using blogs for the past two semesters I have noticed that my writing has improved and I am becoming a better speller. Blogs are going to be a great tool for our future students. Having them able to express themsleves through writing of their learninng is awesome. I know that it will help my students creativity, writing skills, engagement, and communciation with others around the world. Having my students use the computer to write their feelings is so beneficial for them and for others. I know that as a new blogger that I will definitely be doing that with my students. Blogging is going to save many trees as well with using less paper. I can't wait to have my students blog! Its going to be AWESOME!

Vidcasts/Podcasts/Videos

What?

In class we learned how to make Vidcasts, Podcasts, and Videos. I will be able to put these on my classroom website. The assignment is to make our own as a group this week.

So What?

These three new things mean so much to me and my future classroom. As a student this is going to help my technology knowledge so much. As a teacher it means so much to me because i know that I am going to use it in my classroom. As a colleague this is going to benefit me to help others so much to be able to trade with each other the different vidcasts, podcasts, we make and videos they find.

This is going to benefit me so much in other classes. I know that in my curriculum class I will be able to put these podcasts, and vidcasts into my lesson plans. I will also be able to use it in my Method class. My group is very excited about doing these projects to help out each other in our future classrooms. I know that we are learning this to reach to all of our students multiple intelligences by using these different new technologies.

Now What?

This is going to be so beneficial for my future classroom. I will be able to reach to my visual and auditory learners using technology that I will make on my own. This way I will be able to give my students the knowledge to do well in my class that I want them to focus on. I have always been into finding technology to use, but with vidcasts and podcasts I will be able to make my own for my classroom. This is going to make me such a better teacher. Having all this knowledge about technology is going to make me advanced for my students. Technology is the new thing now a days and I have to be able to do all I kind to teach through technology.

I am just amazed with the opportunity to make my own technology. I will be able to give my students all the information that they need, instead of giving them a lot of information and only needing to know a little bit of it. However, I know that when I do podcasts I am going to have to let someone else do the talking. My voice literally sounds like a smoker voice and I would rather want them to hear a pleasant voice. These technologies are wonderful to use in my classroom and I literally can't wait! Nothing is better then staying up to date in technology with this new generation.

Video: School House Rock-Person Place or Things

This video was so much fun to watch. School House Rock has many awesome new ways to teach kids. They each are so much fun to watch and it gets me excited to try to make little videos to teach a subject. My husband even sat and watched it with me because he just started watching it and couldn't stop. Those videos can just attatch people and get them to keep watching. There are so educational for students. It would be fun to have an activity for students to have to make up their own school of rock song for one of my topics in class. School House Rock has so many great educational videos. I am going to look and see if there is any School House videos on Health to use in my classroom.

WebQuest March 14

So What?

This week we finished our webquest and it was so much fun! Our team really enjoyed doing this project together. I will definitely be doing one of these in my classroom.

So What?

As a future educator I am so excited about these webquests. It will be a fun for my students to use. It will also be beneficial for me to teach other teachers to use it in their classroom. I have talked to many educators about webquests and they have no idea what they were. I showed one teacher and he wanted to use it in his classroom. Which, was very suprisingly to me because most teachers like to stick in their ways, but he wanted to improve his technology.

As a colleague its going to be so easy to share these assignments with each other. I know that the girls in my content area would be easily wanting to exchange webquests with each other. This will be an easy way to share the different ideas that we come up with. Plus, I like these homework assignments because using technology will be better then using and wasting sheets of paper for worksheets. Technology is making the world a lot more greener. It does take a lot of time to make webquests so sharing them will be a lot easier.

Now What?

My future classroom is going to be filled with webquests assignments. This is not only going to improve my students working with technology, but it will be a fun activity at the same time. Most students have never done webquests so it is a new thing that will be exciting for them. This will be a new future for them that they have never seen. It's going to be so wonderful for my students to experience something new.

Now I am going to be making more an more webquests. I want to have a webquest for each standard in my curriculum. I have one on mental disorders, and now I want to make one on nutrition, safety, diseases, self esteem, violence, and drugs. Having one for each unit, will be very beneficial. I can even use webquests for a review for a test. Instead of using time in class for reviews I can easily do it on a webquest. Having webquests is going to be the best thing that has ever happened to my future classroom. The future is changing with technology and its because of this great instrucitonal media class that is so beneficial. I want to be that teacher that everyone looks to for help in technology.

Video: The Connected Classroom

I was honestly very impressed with that video and it truly made me think how I really need to teach my students technology. It was sad to see the old classroom and how it is so different now a days, but it is so much better. However, the only way it can get better is if I teach my students technology. I really liked how it put that we are preparing them for their world. That is really how we should think about technology. Its crazy that we are helping them now for technology we don't even know is going to happen. It really struck me when I saw the I-Pod vs. the big juke box because everything is so much faster and easier for our students. They need to be taught that to survive in their generation. If they don't know how to use technology then they will suffer when they have their jobs. Our students need to know technology and only teachers can teach it. I want to be that teacher and I will be! I love this motivating videos!

My Beliefs

As for my beliefs in technology in the classroom, I think it is necessary. Many students are using google to ask all of their questions. When they discover new things, most of the time it is from online. How can I not use technology in my classroom when my students spend more than half of their day on it. Technology is taking over generations faster then we can teach. As teachers, we can't be teaching using old techniques. We need to stay up to date on everything we are doing, with our curriculum and with our teaching methods. We can't be successful in the classroom if we are not using technology.

We are truly blessed as teachers having all this technology to benefit our classrooms. However, if we are not using it then what is the point of advancing it. As teachers, we truly just need to get up and try the many new technologies. Having professors that I can get a hold of at anytime of the day is so great. I want to be that available for my students. I want to be able to e-mail them back in a second, since I have an I-Phone that can do that and I know how to work it. I want to be there for my students and the best way is through technology. Plus, there is so much information on the Internet that can teach health just as much as I can. I can teach students how to learn on the Internet and research. The Internet is going to make our students more successful if they know how to use it properly. That is why I know that I will use it in my classroom.

Lessons Learned

Each one of these really made me change how the world was changing so rapidly. Just from the beginning, when all the students are saying how they have to help their parents do everything with technology because they know how to do it all. I want to be that teacher that all of my students are able to always be available because of technology. I see professors constantly using their I-phone and I think that is awesome. There are always trying to be very accessible for their students. I know I can be that kind of teacher if I work at it. However, from the readings and videos I liked how they want to have technology for everything and the "tools to change." However, I disagree to have textbooks online or available electronically period. To me books, and textbooks shouldn't change. However, I am the person that writes in the book and highlights. I bet most students would be happy to not pay for a textbook, but books need to be carried on. They are something special, and if technology took over them then we wouldn't have any libraries. In addition, even though I struggled with that I loved the high tech learning. There are so many databases on the web that can be so helpful for Health. I want my students to be able to use the CDC website, or the Mypyramid website that is all very beneficial. I loved learning that I can apply this more for my students because sometimes websites can help you teach along with what you are doing. However, I think Facebook is not a site that you let your students join you on. As a teacher, I need my privacy and that website is more for family and friends, not my students.

Harrison Central High School was truly motivating the increase technology in my classroom. I definitely want to use the E-Clicker system in my classroom for reviews. It would be so easy to assess students on how they are doing. I really want to be able to do that because I could use that for discussions on abortion, and what people think to see the differences in the classroom. I will be able to do that with a lot of my subjects in health. I honestly was just amazed with how much technology is used at that school. That is how it should be everywhere. The article on students using their emailing/texting language in their speaking and writing skills as very amusing. I really think that it is damaging our writing. Students text more than they write papers and its starting to show. I think that if you are constantly doing that then it will eventually be your writing. Why can't we just text appropriately like we are writing? Nothing would hurt that much if we started doing that. It actually would probably make students writing better. I honestly, will talk to my students about writing properly in text messages because it really does make that person unintelligent when they are doing it. Furthermore, watching the videos, and reading the articles and websites really made me think about how crazy technology is going to be in five years, let alone when I have children. Its going to be insane! As a teacher, I really need to stay up to date with everything so I don't get left behind like many teachers in our education system today.

Strengths and Weaknesses

My strengths and weaknesses were very suprising when going over the NET Standards and survey. I thought I was actually very strong when it came to technology, however now I noticed with these standards and survey, I have more weaknesses then strengths. As for my weaknesses, I struggle with operating a multimedia computer system. I don't really know how to download software. My husband is really good at those things so he does it. However, now I know that I need to ask him to teach me instead of just having him do it all the time. I realized too, that I need to understand computer technology. I may have heard terms before, but knowing exactly what they mean is a question for me. Another area that I found was difficult for me was the assessing students learning. I really don't have any idea how to do that and it truly concerns me because it sounds important for my class. Another area is the copyright problem now a days. I don't know what I am allowed to take or not. I always just go to google images and take pictures. Am I even allowed to do that? I really don't know.

I honestly failed that entire survey. Half of the time, I didn't even understand what it was asking me. I know how to use technology in the classroom, but trouble-shooting I have no clue. Once again, I just ask my husband to help me. I wouldn't know the first thing to do. Also, the operating of basic equipment, such as scanners, LCD, MIDI keyboards and pretty much everything else that was on that survey is impossible for me to use. I honestly felt like I needed to get sit in the corner with a dunce hat on after doing the survey.

Even though my weaknesses are very visilbe, I still have some hope in the NET Standards. I really know how to apply technology into my curriculum. I know how to do poweroints, make a google site, use UEN, create google documents, and use a projector. Those are all areas that I will use in my classroom. However, I want to be that teacher that everyone wants to ask how to do something or help out with the school website. The way to improve that is to take classes. On the UEN website I chose two classes that I want to take. First, is "Excell 2007 for Teachers" because I know I will be using that to assess my students progress when puting in grades or just traching progress. I am very unfamiliar with Excel and how to use it. Another, class I would take to improve my weakness in operating a multimedia computer system would be "Making the most of your Mach." I noticed that most school districts have Mac's and I have never used one before. I really need to understand how to operate a Mac computer system and then hopefully that will help me with all computer systems. I am so glad I got to look at the NET standards and take the survey because I realized the work that I needed to do.

Internet Safety Video

That video was fabulous! I am so glad I saw it because now I can use it for my Internet safety unit. If my students were to follow all those rules then they would never have a problem on the Internet. It really let the students know exactly what information to not give out. I think some kids give out their e-mail to many different sites all the time. That video really helped it become more clear for students. I really liked how it talked about if a student ever felt uncomfortable on the Internet to go get an adult. That is something that I think is extremely important. When students start messing with bad people on the Internet its usually because they respond to the uncomfortable comments by these awful people instead of calling for help to someone. However, feeling uncomfortable has a lot to do with rule #4 (If someone is cyber bullying you, don't respond). If our students came to adults instantly after feeling uncomfortable or hurt, we would be in a safer world. Furthermore, I loved rule #3 on not giving out your password. Most people usually don't do this, but however some still do. This causes so many messes. I know so many girls that would find out passwords and be another person on Facebook and say mean things.
I like #5 about writing posts on the Internet, because someone will always see it, even if you erase it. It will always be there. Students need to think twice before ever posting anything. Students need to be very aware of these things, but I think most of all is that they need to follow rule #6. That is to never meet with anyone that you meet online. There are so many rapes, deaths, or kidnappings happening every year because students do this. They truly need to be educated on this subject and I am going to make sure it happens!

Why we should or should not use the Internet in education?

I think we should definitely use the Internet in education. If we like it or not this generation is all a computer world. The statistics have proven that the computer is used more than anything to find information for students. If we do not use it in our education then we are lacking a great tool for our students to use. It is a great source for many students to use for doing assignments, papers, and presentations. It is also a great tool for health education. I am going to use the Mypyramid.gov in my classroom to teach on nutrition. The Internet is a fabulous tool that my students and many other students will use to help their education. However, we do have to be smart about the Internet and find credible resources, which can be taught.

Why we should evaluate the sites we use?

We need to evaluate sites to make sure that the information students and I find is credible. There are many things on the Internet that is just opinions people have or any other non-credible garbage. However, when we evaluate sites we can find out if a website is researched by a credible source. If we don't evaluate then my students and I will be finding worthless information. After all, a study found that "googling" an item only brings up 27% that are actually credible. We need to evaluate sites unless credible information will not be used.

The questions you would ask yourself to evaluate a site.

1. What does the URL look like?

2. What is the date of the information?

3. Who is the author?

4. How can I find out more about the author on the website?

5. Is the author's credibility related to the information on the page?

6. Is there a credible bibliography?

7. How does this information different from other sites?

Ways you can keep your students safe while surfing:

I am going to have my students take home an evaluation sheet if they are using information on the Internet. That way I know they will be looking and credible and safe information. They will have to bring one of those every time they use the Internet for my class. I will also do my Internet safety unit at the beginning of each semester and not in the middle or end to teach them about Internet safety. They will learn to never give out personal information to anyone or any site on the Internet. I will teach them about predators on the Internet and how they can destroy many lives. I will also be talking about cyber bullying and how that is not accepted at all. This will be all at the beginning of the year so my students can be aware the whole year while they are using the Internet for research. I honestly am so excited because it is so easy to teach them about being safe while surfing because it is part of my core curriculum! I won't even be wasting a day of teaching because its already something I have to teach! I can't wait!

UEN REFLECTION

UEN REFLECTION
The UEN website is a highly beneficial website for my future students and classroom. I have always been convinced that I will have a Google site, however now that I have learned about UEN I believe this is the site that my students will use. I know that it is a safer website for my students. With the many problems in the world today I would rather make sure my students will always get to my site safely. There are so many ways to connect with people on the internet and see inappropriate images. I am not saying that Google sites is a bad website, I just know that parents would feel more comfortable with their children looking on an .edu website instead of a .com.

The UEN website also provides a wonderful Pioneer Library. I am so excited to use this in my classroom. The first example of using it will be in the Culture Grams site from Pioneer. In my nutrition unit I will have my students find a healthy recipe from another country using Culture Grams. They will then make it and bring it to class. It’s going to be a fun day during my nutrition unit. Another great resource from pioneer library is the eMedia. While doing the scavenger hunt, I found a great video called “Real People: Suicide and Depression.” I am so excited because now I will be able to use this during my suicide unit. The eMedia is one fabulous source that I will be doing many searches on. Another source that I will be using is the Deseret News site. Students love to hear real life stories and with teaching health there are many articles, and obituaries that are health related. I will be able to find many stories using this site instead of just “googling” for an article.

The Interactives on UEN are so awesome. Having them is going to be great for my students. In the nutrition unit there is a menu planner interactive that my students will use to make a one’s day diet. It helps my students make a healthy meal by staying under the amount of calories. It’s going to be so much easier for my students to do it online and have the nutrition facts right on that website, instead of trying to find them on others. My students will also be using the stress-o-meter quiz that is on the interactive as well. During my stress unit I will have my students take the quiz and then bring their results to class and have a class discussion. It will be so much easier to have my students take this online, and not during class time. This way we can go straight into discussion.

The Core curriculum they provide on the website is great. It keeps the core up to date on how it constantly changes. It’s nice to always be able to have it online just in case somehow I ever lose it. Each standard of the core provides a link that shows each objective and a source for information. This site gives me so much information to use and is so helpful. I know for a fact that I will be using the link for “building self-esteem” because it gives me a set of discussion questions that I will be able to use during the lesson. They are great questions that I have never even seen, so I’m so grateful for that link. Another great part about UEN is that it gives lesson plans. I have 19 lesson plans provided for me. I have so many lesson plans to write and going on this website to get ideas is so helpful! The Self Awareness lesson plan gives a great activity that I will be able to use in my class. That is one activity that I know that I will use for sure, but I still need to go through the many different lesson plans as a resource. I am so grateful for the many lesson plans the website provides! Another interesting thing on the website is the Professional Development classes that are provided. I can easily go on this website and find what class I want to go to. I can’t wait to take the class “Make the Most of your Mac” because I am so unaware of these types of computers and I know that is what schools use. I also can’t wait to take the class “Effective teaching using visual-media.” The many classes are going to be so helpful for me and it’s so easy to find them. I am so grateful for the UEN website and the many benefits it brings. Learning about this website has helped my resources improve so much! I can’t wait to use it this semester and the rest of my life and career.

The video "A Vision of Student's Today" was completely true. There was so many people in my classes that are either facebooking or emailing constantly. Everything everyone does now a days is with technology. Seeing teachers write on chalkboards reminds me of the 1900's. We are a technology generation. If teachers want to connect with their students they need to be up to date with technology. Students spend more than half their days with technology. How are teachers going to get through to the students without technology? I really don't even no. That is why I will never be one of those teachers. Technology will be part of my curriculum.

February 6 Refection

What?


In class, we learned more about the UEN website and the Pioneer Library. We also learned more about our own website. Our assignment was our UEN website and the scavenger hunt.


So what?


UEN means so much to me. As a teacher, I am going to use it as a resource all of the time. There are so many resources on the UEN website and on the Pioneer Library. There is videos, podcasts, and different games that I will be able to use for my curriculum. Its going to be so highly beneficial for my classroom. As a student, its going to help me write so many of my lesson plans. Everyone time I go onto both the UEN and Pioneer I find a new idea for one of my lessons.


This technology is so awesome. I am so grateful to be able to use it for my future class and this semester. I know we are learning this to have more resources and ideas as teachers. Also to have a safe website for our students. UEN is a great website for my students. They will be able to use it as a resource when they are doing assignments.

Now What?

This has changed my current schema so much. I have always just "googled" something if I had a hard time finding something or needing an answer. Googling it was the easiest thing for me, but now I am so against Google. I am all for UEN website and Pioneer Library. Now I am looking up credible information, instead of the many uncredible sources that are found when you google something. I am going to be such a better teacher with these two wonderful resources. Its just amazing that in two days I learned about this website and the library it provides. My way of searching for more information to use in my curriculum has completely changed!

This type of information is going to change the way I will be as a teacher. I have struggled with finding resources, but now that I have these helpful sources I am going to be so much better of a teacher. I think that learning this I will be able to help other health teachers I work with. Knowing how to use the websites completely is not very common for older teachers. However, they will be helping me probably more than I will be helping them. I have been just thrilled with this new technology! This class has just been awesome!

Reflection Jan 31

What?

Wednesday in class we had a presenter from the Utah Education Network. We set up our own account and I saw all the benefits that he presented. I was so grateful to be able to find all that could be used on UEN.

So What?

This means so much to me as a student right now because it is really going to benefit me in all of my classes. I will be writing so many lesson plans this semester and the UEN website provides so many tools that will help. Just going underneath the Health section it gives all different games and ideas in all the different areas of Health. It gives me so many sources that I will be able to use to write my lesson plans. It is such an awesome source for this coming semester. Its going to be so useful as a teacher. I know we are learning this to use in our own classroom. I think parents will be more understanding with this website then a google site. Some parents are a little nervous about websites so having UEN as a education website they should be okay with it. I think its just a little bit safer to use then google sites.

This technology is definitely going to be used in my classroom. It really means a lot to me and its going to be very easy to use in my class. However, I am still a fan of google sites. I think UEN does have so many sources that can be used, but I just like more of the set up with google sites. However, I might not have parents like it so I might need to use UEN as my website.

Now What?

This is going to benefit my future students. I will actually be able to use it for assignments as well. On the website under Health there are many different games that students will be able to play to help them learn. I could use that as a tool for the students to gain more information on the subject we are on, while having fun. It definitely did change my schema, when I found out that some parents might not want to use google sites. I had no idea that some parents wouldn't like it until the guest speaker said sometimes they do. I honestly hope that I can use google sites, but UEN is another option.

I am so excited about this new tool to use for my students. I am going to be a better teacher because of it. The more technology I have the better I am going to be. This website is going to benefit my sources as well. The more sources I have I will be better too. I am so grateful for this tool and I am going to use it! Even if its not my website, I am still going to have my students play all the games on it.

That video was so straight forward. It really enforces how we need to make sure we reach out to our students using technology. It is the 21st century and we need to teach our students because that is what they relate to. I want to be that kind of teacher that is in on technology. That is why I have loved this class so much. It is really expanded me in technology for my future students. I can't wait to use it all. This video truly inspires me to get hooked on technology. I really want a iphone now for my future.

Reflection week 3

What?


Class was so beneficial for me. We learned how to create our own class website, with seven different pages. Our assignment was to complete our own website.

So what?


This gets me so excited for my future classes. That one thing that I have loved so much about college is having blackboard. Having access to all my classes online made everything so much easier. The professors that had their material online helped me out so much. It just made everything in their classes so much accessable. Now that I have learned that I can be more of a help for my future students. This is also going to benefit my colleagues. Seeing how we are each setting up our curriculums is going to be so helpful. We will always need new ideas. With each of us having a website it will be so easy to just go and look at it online, especially if you lost your contact information with them. Having our own websites is definitely going to improve secondary education.


I know we are learning this to help my students have easier access for my class. This is going to help my students to have more access to me along with their parents. This website will so nice that all of my classes will be able to access everything about the class. I feel that that this has made me so much more effective with technology. I have always wanted to be one of those teachers that is up to date with technology. Now, thanks to this class I can be.



Now What?

As a teacher this website is going to be amazing for all my students. High School students have so much on their mind now a days, how are they supposed to remember what assignment I gave them? Having my website easy for access at their home or any computer will keep my students more engaged in my class. Not all will turn in their homework assignments, but I know that atleast they won't forget to do it because they forgot what it was. My students should do better in my class with this website. I am just so grateful that we got to learn it.

This honestly has got me so excited to start teaching. I dont' know what it is, but having my own website just thrills me. It will be so easy for my students that miss class too. I can just tell them to look on the website, instead of going over everything with them. How much faster is that going to be for me as a teacher. I will probably be getting home earlier too because I will be able to access my lesson plans online with my file cabinet. This way I won't have to stay late hours into the night, when I need to be making my husband dinner. I know it won't take all the late nights at the school away, but it will hopefully take a few. I am just thrilled that everything is going to be online for me. Technology is making our world quicker and quicker and its about time that I catch up with it.

Video

The video was awesome this week. Kids today go home get on facebook, myspace, youtube, twitter, and doing this with the television on. Throughout the school day they are sending and receiving text messages and making calls. The video gave the exact statistics and it was all so true. With all the technology used today, teachers need to start getting intune with technology. Why aren't we using technology with these students? If this is the way kids communicate and spend their time during they day, then how can we expect them to listen to us lecture in the classroom for 60-90 minutes? As teachers, we need to be update with our technology and the way the world communicates. I am going to be one of those teachers. This video was a true inspiration.

Reflection week 2

What?
In class we learned how to use many new technologies that we have because of our gmail accounts. We learned how to use iGoogle, Google docs, Google presentations, and Google calendar. We were given group assignments and we made a welcome letter in a google doc and a google presentation of our ten classroom rules.

So What?

As a student, knowing these technologies is going to be very beneficial this semester. We have to do many group projects with all my education classes and now it will be so much easier to do them. Before it was very hard to get everyone together because of our many different schedules, however now with the google docs, and google presentation we can just be at all our homes working on it all together. Its going to be so awesome for all of my classes! I wish I would have had it last semester. As a teacher, it is going to make me so much better. I am going to be so much more organized thanks to google calendar. I have a planner, but having an electronic one will never get lost. I had an old one and it was great, until I lost it. Google docs and google presentations will be so great for my classroom presentations and also to be able to communicate with my other health colleagues. We will all be able to help put presentations together instead of only one person doing it. Its going to be so so so AWESOME!

Having these many new learned options is only going to make my class so much better! This technology is a great tool to keep organized and to contribute with docs and presentations so much better. This generation is so much faster with doing everything and as teachers we need to be that way too. I really could have used this technology last semester. I would end up doing powerpoint presentations by myself when it was a group project and then my group would never see it until the day of the presentation. However, now they can actually see it and even fix it! Its going to help out so much in the rest of my classes! I am so so excited!

Now what?

The technology is going to be great for my future students. I believe that google calendar is going to help me so much if students make appointments with me because I will put it in my google calendar and it will remind me with a text message! How cool is that! I will never miss any appointments with any students! Google docs and presentations are going to be very helpful for students who missed class because I can just give them a url and they will be able to go online and see that class notes for the day. That will be so easy instead of getting their email and sending it. Its just making everything so much faster! Its so funny to because it has really changed my personal schema. I have never been a technology person at all, however now I want to learn more and more about it. I even want to show my students how to use it when I assign them group presentations. It might be a little bit advanced, but I dont' think so. Each generations technology is getting more fascinating by the second. Why not teach my students how to do it when they are young because I could have used it all four years of college and not just my last semester! I will probably give them an assignment to do it on how to do a google doc and a google calendar to force them to get to know the technology and use it. Students should learn how to prioritize as well and google calendar is a huge help with that. Plus, now a days everyone almost has a cell phone so students could even set it up so the events they put into google calendar will go to their cell phones! How cool would it be for them to be able to take that technology into the rest of high school and college! I think they would love every second of it! I am going to be such a better teacher with the many faster options I will have now.

This technology will help me be such a better colleague because I will be able to fix another teachers stuff or even have them fix my presentations just over the internet! I am thrilled to be able to implement this new technology into my classroom! I feel like I am finally getting out of the old school routine! I have such a strong passion for it and its going to make it easier as a student as well! Plus, I noticed with the education department teaching us all this we are saving so many more trees! I think that is so fabulous because being a Health Education teacher, environmental health is very important to me! This technology has so many benefits! I can't wait to use it more!


Video

This weeks video was very different from last weeks. It was actually the 2009 Winner of the "I am what I learn" contest. This boy comes from a rough family life. His father is in jail for physically abusing his mother and it looked as if they didn't have that much money, but the boy really emphasized how to make the best out of every situation. I really enjoyed seeing that a student is finally taking their own responsibility in their learning. That is something very rare in a classroom. However, I don't think that they need to be solely responsible. I think that as a teacher, I can be more responsible for those children in my classroom. I need to be able to recognize if they have a rough home life and reach out to those kids that need me. This child who won did a fantastic job of being motivating for kids to make the best out of every situation, but if teachers are looking for those struggling kids then they can motivate them too. Not many people learn to make the best out of situations until they are later on in life. This child is very motivating, but I still think that as teachers we can do all we can to help motivate those students as well. I want to be one of those teachers that reaches out to many kids! I want to motivate them that they can have a better lifestyle if they choose. Those kids need to be a little bit of a push to get them started and I can do that!

Video: Do you believe in me?

This video was so insperational and motivating to be the best teacher I can be. It really made me think about how I can touch so many lives of this young generation, but it all starts on how hard I work. Dalton has truly inspired me to be great each day of my teaching! He made me feel like each day I should be putting my whole heart into every lesson and into my students. I know I am going to have bad days, but he has inspired me to not even show it! I want to believe in all my students to become anything! Even if there is a student that lays his head on the desk and doesn't want to participate, "I WILL STILL BELIEVE IN HIM!" I will believe in him and help him in anway, because just like Dalton said, "You're not only affecting me, but my children as well!" When I look at the students in my class, I am looking at millions of people in the next generation. If I work as hard as I can to have some sort of connection everyday with my students I will know that I am atleast trying to believe in each one of my students!

Thanks so much for that video Dr. Waters! That was so motivating and inspirational! I just want to be inside a classroom now to be there for all of my students!

Ideal Classroom

My health class is one of the brightest looking classrooms in the entire school. As you walk into my classroom there will always be a different quote on the door that my students will see as they walk in. It will be something inspiration or just something to make them smile. The carpet is blue and the walls are white, but when I put up all my fun stuff for the unit I will be teaching up, then they won't be white anymore. The unit that I will be teaching during that time will be covered all over the classroom. For example, for my nutrition unit I will have the big food pyramid poster, which is covered in all colors. I will also a poster that says on it "You are what you eat!" On it will be two different body shape outlines of someone who is fit and healthy compared to being overweight. Inside the fit and healthy body outline will be the many nutritious foods that your body needs. In the overweight body outline, it will be filled with all different kinds of junk food that is nutrient dense and high in calories. There will also be a physical activity section on one of my walls during this unit. There will be some kind of quote that will help motivate my students to get active, and then I will put many pictures of professional athletes around it with big smiles. With all the different posters my room will be nice and colorful and it will be that way for all my other units as well. My room will be so colorful and happy that there is no way you couldn't smile if you walked in it.

My students will be so excited to come to my class. There will have bad days, but they will feel a sense of comfort when they walk in my classroom and they receive a big smile from me. My students will be very participative, because health is such a fun subject to learn. They will even get a chance to be humorous because of the many fun topics. If by chance any of my students fell asleep during my class they will wake up with quite a surprise, which I haven't decided yet, but it will be good. During my human sexuality unit, the students will start off being a little shy, but I will make it a lot more entertaining for all of them. This will help them be open up so much that they will be enjoying every minute of learning about human sexuality. Overall, my students are going to be very entertaining for me.

The parents will be always be very helpful. They will always be asking how their child can do better in my class. They will also help my students apply what they are learning in my classroom. For example again on the nutrition unit. They will strive to make healthier meals because of what their child is learning in class. However, if this was really going on at home then there wouldn't be so many obese children, but that is my ideal parents is that they are very helpful with their child.

The colleagues that I will mainly be working with is the other health teachers. Each one of them is just a fun bright personality that loves health as much as me. We love eating lunch together and talking about what lessons worked and what lessons didn't. We give each other many different ideas on how to teach different lessons. Anything we come up with, we share it! We all work so nicely and are vert helpful with each other and we become close friends and just love our chats all together.

I will use the many different teaching techniques that I learned in Educational Psychology, but the main one will be creating a community of learners. The students will be teaching me as much as I am teaching them. We will all be actively involved in everything we are learning together to make it a happy environment. I will also use all of Gardner's multiple intelligence theory in my lessons. The first day of class I will handout a multiple intelligence test and figure out what ways I need to teach for each one of my students. After finding all the different intelligences I will be able to use all of them in every lesson. This way each child is learning by using different mulitple intelligence techniques. This will make it a very active class that will be enjoyed by all of my students.

The technologies that I will use are for sure going to be a class website. I will probably use blogger.com to list everything that will be going on in the class and what we will be learning about each day. I will also be using dvds, projectors, and powerpoints that will benefit my different lessons. The students would be able to e-mail me whenever they needed help or had any questions.

With my content being health my class goals would be to mainly make a comforting environment for my students. To many kids today don't have the best homelife and I want my students to feel like that they can come to me for advise, help, or even if they just need to talk. They need to feel so much love from me when they walk through my door. Especially since I am a health teacher because the students could be struggling with many different health problems and they want help, such as alcohol, drugs, or even sexual activity. My ultimate goal is for my students to feel like they can come to me with any problem.

Overall, I hope to teach my students the basic health standards of life. With the knowledge I will give them they will be able to live a long, healthy lifestyle that will improve their quality of life forever.
